The brand traces its roots back to 1919, when Roy W. Allen first served root beer at a roadside stand in California.

In 1923, Allen partnered with Frank Wright to open the first A&W restaurant, with the name derived from their initials. A&W became widely recognized in the United States for its signature frosty mugs, served ice-cold straight from the freezer, helping establish the brand as a nostalgic icon of American fast food culture.
