Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. is a prominent Japanese beverage holding company based in Sumida, Tokyo. Its roots trace back to Asahi Breweries, founded in 1889. The company evolved in 1893 into Ōsaka Breweries and later, in 1906, merged with Nippon Breweries and Sapporo Breweries to create Dai-Nippon Breweries, meaning “Great Japan Beer Company.” Notably, during World War I, German prisoners were employed at the brewery.
