The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team based in the Atlanta metropolitan area, competing in Major League Baseball (MLB) as part of the National League (NL) East Division.
Founded in 1871 in Boston, Massachusetts, as the Boston Red Stockings, the franchise adopted the Boston Braves name in 1912. One of two remaining NL charter franchises from 1876, the Braves are the oldest continuously operating professional sports franchise in North America.
