The Carling Brewery was founded in 1840 by Thomas Carling in London, Upper Canada.
Originally a Canadian brewery, Carling expanded internationally over the decades, with Carling lager entering the UK market in 1952. By the early 1980s, it had become the best-selling beer brand in the United Kingdom by volume.
Over its history, the company went through multiple mergers: it was acquired by Canadian Breweries (later renamed Carling O’Keefe), then merged with Molson Brewery, which eventually joined with Coors to form Molson Coors.
