The company was originally founded on June 19, 1918 as the Cohn-Brandt-Cohn (CBC) Film Sales Corporation by Jack and Harry Cohn along with Joe Brandt. It adopted the Columbia Pictures name in 1924 and became recognized worldwide with its iconic Columbia lady logo, symbolizing the personification of the United States.
