The GNU Image Manipulation Program, widely known as GIMP, is a free and open-source raster graphics editor. Popular for tasks like photo retouching, image editing, free-hand drawing, and converting between various image file formats, GIMP was first developed in 1995 by Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis as a semester project at the University of California, Berkeley, for the eXperimental Computing Facility.
