Originally founded as the Houston Colt .45s, they joined the National League as an expansion team in 1962 alongside the New York Mets.
In 1965, the team was renamed the Astros, reflecting Houston’s connection to the Johnson Space Center, and moved into the Astrodome, the world’s first multi-purpose, domed sports stadium, dubbed the “Eighth Wonder of the World“
