The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), officially the National Research and Development Agency Aerospace Research and Development Organisation, was established on October 1, 2003, through the merger of three organizations: the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan (NAL), and the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA).

Headquartered in Chōfu, Tokyo, Japan, JAXA is the national agency responsible for space exploration, satellite development, and aerospace research.
