The Nintendo DS is a foldable handheld game console developed by Nintendo, released worldwide in 2004 and 2005. The “DS” stands for “Developers’ System” or “Dual Screen”, reflecting its two LCD screens, with the bottom one functioning as a touchscreen. The console introduced several innovative features, including a built-in microphone, wireless connectivity, and clamshell design similar to the Game Boy Advance SP.

The Nintendo DS allowed multiple consoles to connect wirelessly within short distances and also supported online play via the now-defunct Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Competing against Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) during the seventh generation of video game consoles, the DS became one of the best-selling handheld consoles of all time.
