Qwen, also known as Tongyi Qianwen (Chinese: 通义千问), is a family of large language models developed by Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group, headquartered in Hangzhou, China.

Launched in beta in April 2023, Qwen’s architecture is based on Meta AI’s Llama model. By July 2024, it ranked as the top Chinese language model in certain benchmarks and third globally, trailing only Anthropic and OpenAI’s leading models, showcasing its advanced capabilities in natural language processing.
