FC Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukrainian: Футбольний клуб Шахтар Донецьк) is a Ukrainian professional football club, founded on May 24, 1936, and one of Ukraine’s most popular teams.
Based in Donetsk, it has competed under the names Stakhanovets (1936–46), Shakhtyor (Shakhtar) (1946–92), and FC Shakhtar (1992–present).
The club plays in the Ukrainian Premier League and is known for its success domestically and in European competitions.
