Tecmo, Ltd. was a Japanese video game developer and publisher best known for iconic franchises such as Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, Tecmo Bowl, Fatal Frame, and Monster Rancher.
Founded in 1967 and originally named Tehkan, the company began by producing arcade games before becoming a major player in the home console market. With headquarters in Tokyo and a U.S. branch in Torrance, California, Tecmo built a lasting legacy in both action and sports gaming.
In 2009, Tecmo merged with Koei to form Tecmo Koei Holdings (now Koei Tecmo Games). Though the Tecmo brand was retired in 2010 and phased out by 2016, its celebrated franchises continue to thrive under Koei Tecmo.
