AFC – American Football Conference Logo in Vector

American Football Conference (AFC) is one of the two conferences that make up the National Football League (NFL). The AFC represents the highest level of professional American football competition in the United States.

Formed in 1970 following the merger of the NFL and the American Football League (AFL), the AFC consists of 16 teams organized into four divisions. The conference is best known for producing Super Bowl contenders and champions.

American Football Conference (AFC) Logo

The original AFC logo closely resembled the emblem of the former American Football League (AFL). After the AFL–NFL merger, the league introduced a redesigned AFC logo that retained the core structure of the AFL mark while adopting a much bolder red letter “A” surrounded by six equally bold red stars—replacing the six blue stars used in the AFL design.

In 1970, the National Football League (NFL) also unveiled a new logo for the NFC. Like the AFL and AFC logos, it featured a single initial rather than a full abbreviation, but displayed only three stars to represent the conference’s three divisions at the time.

The AFC logo remained largely unchanged from 1970 through 2009. Ahead of the 2010 NFL season, the league introduced a refined version of the logo, most notably reducing the number of stars from six to four—symbolizing the AFC’s four divisions—and repositioning them inside the letter “A” aligning the design more closely with the updated NFC logo.

The Kansas City Chiefs, still owned by the descendants of Lamar Hunt, the founder of the AFL, continue to regularly feature the original AFL logo on their uniforms as of 2026.
