Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English football club based in Charlton, south-east London. They currently compete in League One, the third tier of English football.

The club was founded on 9 June 1905. Their home ground is The Valley, where the club have played since 1919, apart from one year in Catford, during 1923–24, and seven years at Crystal Palace and West Ham United between 1985 and 1992, due to financial issues, and then safety concerns raised by the local council.
