It was created by original MySQL developers following concerns over Oracle’s acquisition in 2009. In 2024, MariaDB was acquired by K1 private equity group, which appointed a new CEO. Known for its high performance, scalability, and security, MariaDB is widely used in enterprise and cloud applications.
