The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area. Competing in the NFL as part of the AFC East, the Bills play their home games at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, with a new stadium scheduled for completion in 2026.

Founded in 1959 as an original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Bills joined the NFL in 1970 after the AFL–NFL merger. The team’s name honors both Buffalo’s earlier AAFC franchise and the American frontiersman Buffalo Bill. With a passionate fan base spanning western New York and southern Ontario, the Bills are the only NFL team to play home games in the state of New York.

The franchise is primarily owned by Terry Pegula, who acquired the team in 2014 following the passing of longtime owner Ralph Wilson. In 2024, a group of private equity investors purchased a minority stake, marking a new chapter in the team’s history.
