The English Football League (EFL) is a professional football league system for clubs in England and Wales. It is the oldest football league in the world, originally established in 1888 as the Football League.
After the formation of the Premier League in 1992, the EFL became the second to fourth tiers of English football, overseeing the Championship, League One, and League Two. It was rebranded as the English Football League in 2016.
