The Cape Verde national football team, officially recognized by FIFA as Cabo Verde, represents Cape Verde in international men’s football and is governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The team is popularly known as the Blue Sharks (Tubarões Azuis).

The national team plays most of its home matches at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde. Since joining FIFA and CAF in 1982, Cape Verde has steadily developed into one of Africa’s most competitive emerging football nations.

Cape Verde made its first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and has since qualified for multiple editions of the tournament, reaching the quarter-finals in both 2013 and 2023.

A historic achievement came when Cape Verde qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time. The qualification marked a milestone for the island nation and established Cape Verde among the smallest countries ever to reach a FIFA World Cup finals tournament.

Known for producing talented players who compete in European leagues, the Blue Sharks have become one of the strongest football teams in West Africa and a rising force on the international stage.
